Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, speaks out on former One Direction singer’s death: ‘I loved you unconditionally’
Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has spoken out on the death of the former One Direction member.
“Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss,” she posted on her Instagram Story Friday. “Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
She then addressed her “angel” directly.
“Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam,” she emotionally wrote.
Cassidy ended the heartfelt message with the number 444, an angel number that is believed to represent love and support.
Cassidy — who was first linked to Payne in October 2022 — was with the singer in Argentina days before he died Wednesday in Buenos Aires after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room. He was 31.
Hours before he died, Payne posted several photos and videos to his Snapchat.
In one of the since-deleted snaps, the songwriter told fans he was having a “lovely day” while spending time with Cassidy.
The couple sat around a dining room table and enjoyed different breakfast foods as they discussed their plans for the rest of the day, which included polo and riding horses.
In a separate clip, the musician said he and Cassidy were really “enjoying” their time on vacation.
He went on to post a video showing him and the influencer making silly faces, which he captioned, “Quality time 🥰.”
Cassidy left the country two days before his death, suggesting Payne was not posting the videos in real time.
She shared a TikTok video of her journey back to Florida on Monday, noting that she was “soooo happpiii [sic]” to be home.
Payne’s girlfriend spent two weeks with him in Argentina and then was “so ready to leave” while he stayed behind.
At the time of the “Strip That Down” hitmaker’s death, local police told the Associated Press in a statement that Payne’s fall resulted in “extremely serious injuries.”
First responders were immediately at the scene and confirmed his death upon arrival.

A spokesperson for the Security Ministry of Buenos Aires also told the outlet that the UK native “had thrown himself from the balcony of his room.”
The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office told Page Six on Thursday that it had already questioned five people related to the matter, including three employees of CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, where Payne had been staying.
They also took testimonies from two women who “had been with the musician in his room” in the “hours prior” to his death “but had already left the hotel when the incident occurred.”
The prosecutor’s office made sure to stress that “everything indicates that the musician was alone when the fall occurred, and was going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse.”
Investigators believe Payne was likely in a “state of semi or unconsciousness” when he fell.
Officers who responded found in the pop star’s room “substances that at first glance — and pending confirmation of the expert reports — would be narcotics and alcoholic beverages, as well as several destroyed objects and furniture,” according to the prosecutor’s office.
Photos obtained by Argentinian news outlet La Nación showed apparent drugs, paraphernalia and alcohol scattered throughout the trashed suite.
Investigators said Payne was likely under the influence at the time of his fall.
Prior to the fall, the “X Factor” alum had been acting “erratically” on the premises, prompting hotel workers to escort him back up to his room.
The hotel manager then called 911 and explained that he feared Payne would harm himself because of his state of mind.
Forensic experts “pointed out that the cranial brain injuries were sufficiently suitable to cause death, while the internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, thorax, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death.”
Days before his death — which is being investigated as “suspicious” — Payne’s ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, reportedly accused him of obsessive contact and began taking legal action against him, which is said to have left him “extremely overwhelmed.”
According to Henry, Payne “would always play with death” and used it as as a “manipulation tactic.”
He is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
