Huma Abedin still isn’t divorced from Anthony Weiner, despite being engaged to Alex Soros
Don’t expect new power couple Huma Abedin and Alex Soros to wed too soon — because Abedin is still not divorced from disgraced politician Anthony Weiner, sources confirm.
The former aide to Hillary Clinton, 47, and the son of billionaire Democratic donor George Soros, 38, announced their engagement last week.
Soros proposed in May in NYC with a dazzling diamond rumored to cost around a million dollars, and the duo later celebrated their engagement in Italy.
The brunette filed for divorce from Weiner in May 2017, nine months after he became embroiled in a sexting scandal that followed years of similar indiscretions.
The former Democratic congressman from New York was sentenced to 21 months in prison for sexting,
Back in November 2021, Abedin revealed the divorce was nearly finalized. “We are in the final stages of our divorce,” she told the Cut. “Lawyers are doing their lawyer thing.”
Page Six is told the delay is purely “clerical” and the former couple are in the process of finalizing the paperwork.
Meanwhile, Abedin and Soros are ready to grow their family and welcome a baby, friends say.
“Huma and Alex are so in love,” one insider told Page Six this week. “I know they are excited to start their life together, and they definitely want kids.”
Abedin already has one son, Jordan, 12, with her ex-husband and has called him “the best thing I ever did.”
Abedin and Weiner have been living in the same building in downtown NYC to co-parent their son, and there are no issues over custody or money, a source in the know confirmed. Weiner, 59, said he is “thrilled” for his ex and Soros.
Abedin and Weiner tied the knot in July 2010 in the garden at Oheka Castle in Huntington, Long Island. The nuptials were officiated by former President Bill Clinton.
But Abedin and Soros’ wedding could well overshadow even that bash, friends say. It’s set to be attended by the power players from the Democratic Party and around the globe — with Bill and Hillary Clinton and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, a close friend of Abedin, sure to be guests.
There’s a chance that Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, will be on hand, as Sanchez has been spotted out with Wintour and Abedin on a girls’ night out.
Soros was handed control over his father George’s $25 billion empire last summer and now runs Open Society Foundations, which reportedly spends $1.5 billion a year on leftist causes around the world. He endorsed President Biden for re-election earlier this month.
“Let’s stop running against ourselves and run against the existential threat that is Donald Trump! Biden-Harris 2024!” Soros tweeted.
He has helmed Democratic fundraisers alongside stars like “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and held meetings with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as well as Brazil’s leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Abedin and Soros were first linked earlier this year when the duo posted a cozy pic from a Paris restaurant for Valentine’s Day. They’re believed to have met at a mutual friend’s birthday party last year.
Announcing their engagement, the couple said, “We couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love.”
