Ilona Maher gives behind-the-scenes look at ‘Dancing With the Stars’ makeup applied in surprising spot: ‘Pit crew’
Ilona Maher’s makeup routine deserves a gold medal.
The Olympic rugby player is currently competing in “Dancing With the Stars” Season 33 — and when it comes to her beauty regimen for the show, she isn’t messing around.
“I am now high maintenance,” Maher captioned an Instagram post, revealing a behind-the-scenes look at her pre-show prep, which included applying makeup to her armpits.
In the comical clip, Maher, 28, holds up her arms as her glam squad brushes on plenty of product. “Hollywood has changed me,” the athlete wrote on the video.
Unsurprisingly, there’s no shortage of hilarious comments. “This gives ‘Pit Crew’ a whole new meaning!” said one user.
Another questioned, “I’m supposed to be bronzing my armpits?!” In the same vein, someone wrote, “It took all of us to learn that famous people bronze their armpits from Ilona. 😂”
This interesting beauty moment was in preparation for Tuesday’s Dedication Night, which included performances paying tribute to someone special in their lives.

For the memorable evening, Maher, whose dance partner is Alan Bersten, was looking forward to baring it all, telling her TikTok followers she wanted to be “naked” on stage.
“I want you all to know that this week I went to costume design and told them, ‘Look, I want to be naked,” she emphasized in a video.
“I want to be as naked as is allowed on national television. All these other girls are showing skin,” she added. “I want to show pretty much everything.’”
It seems the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model accomplished her goal, as her deep purple dress revealed plenty of skin. With sheer fabric, slits on both sides, and an open back, the costume left little to the imagination.
The dance partners scored 32/40 for their rumba to “My Way” by Yseult, which honored her Olympic teammates, with all four judges giving the duo an eight out of ten.
Bravo, Maher.
