How to watch the 2024 Emmys live for free: Start time, streaming, nominees

We’re forecasting a starry night in Hollywood this Sunday.

With the Emmys returning for an unprecedented second time this year — given the 2023 show was delayed post-SAG-AFTRA strike — silver screen stars are getting ready to hit the red carpet at LA’s Peacock Theater once again.

Read on for everything you need to know about this year’s ceremony — including how to watch for free.

When are the 2024 Emmys?

The 2024 Emmys will air on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

How to watch and stream the 2024 Emmys

While the show is airing on ABC, you won’t need cable to find out who goes home a winner. Hulu + Live TV (typically $77/month) offers a three-day free trial for access to Disney+, ESPN+ and live streaming channels including ABC.

As a bonus, new subscribers can even get $33 off their first month for keeping the service beyond the trial period.

This year’s Emmys honors shows released between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024. Among those poised to win big? FX’s “Shogun” leads this year’s nominations with 25 nods, followed by Hulu’s “The Bear” with 23 (the most ever in a single year for a comedy series).

In addition to several highly anticipated awards, the ceremony is slated to include several nostalgia-packed cast reunions, including tributes to the upcoming 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live.”

Perhaps, like Moira Rose, father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy’s favorite season is awards. The “Schitt’s Creek” stars are set to host this year’s ceremony, with Dan telling the Los Angeles Times they’re planning to make the show “feel celebratory” while maintaining “a bit of an edge.”

“People, from what I’ve been told, are kind of excited that we’re not hard-edged comics, that there will be a kind of warmth to the room,” he explained.

His father echoed the “gentler” approach, adding, “It’s true, we’re not comedians, but we’re kind of funny working together. It’s a relationship that was forged on ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ and it seems to continue.”
